The TRUTH About BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX Cosmetic® is the No. 1 non-surgical, anti-aging treatment because it offers safe, quick and recognizable results without any downtime. SkinSpirit knows because we’re the #1 BOTOX® Cosmetic provider in the country.

Even though more than 6 million Botox injections were performed in 2012 alone, we realize that clients still might have questions about the treatment. Here we’ve answered some of the most common questions clients ask us about BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What is BOTOX Cosmetic®?
BOTOX Cosmetic®, otherwise known as onabotulinumtoxinA, is the first and only FDA-approved prescription product that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of both moderate to severe crow’s feet lines and frown lines between the eyebrows in adults.

How does BOTOX® Cosmetic work?
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes, collagen depletion, or damage caused by free radicals. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet to form over time. One of our SkinSpirit practitioners will inject BOTOX® Cosmetic into the muscles that cause frown lines and crow’s feet lines, temporarily reducing the activity of those muscles. The result is the reduction in the appearance of those lines.

Will BOTOX Cosmetic® make me look fake?
BOTOX© Cosmetic is a technique-sensitive treatment. You should not lose the ability to show expression when you are treated by someone who is licensed, trained and a medical expert in the facial anatomy.

When will I see results?
You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours of treatment, with the maximum effect visible at 30 days. Results may vary.

Does it hurt?
Some clients report that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like a pinch. Your practitioner may use ice to numb the treatment area. If you’re concerned about discomfort, your practitioner may apply a topical numbing cream before administering your treatment.

Who should I have inject BOTOX© Cosmetic?
Look for experience. It’s important to go to a practitioner who is experienced in administering BOTOX® Cosmetic. Many practitioners injecting BOTOX© Cosmetic are minimally trained, regardless of their title. Understand that consistent results only come with years of experience and a thorough understanding of the anatomy of the tiny muscles in the face. With over 1,000 Botox injections performed every month at each of our six locations, the skill of SkinSpirit’s practitioners is unparalleled. Experience also leads to advanced injection techniques that most injectors aren’t aware of. Be wary of “bargain prices” as you may get what you pay for.
